What happens when you go to the barangay to ask for a protection order — who staffs the VAW Desk, and the two things RA 9262 makes an official administratively liable for: stalling your request, and telling you to compromise.

What happens when I walk into the barangay to report — step by step?

Go to the barangay hall and ask for the VAW Desk. Every barangay is required to have one, staffed by an officer the Punong Barangay designates, and assisting victims in obtaining a Barangay Protection Order is one of that officer's stated duties. If you're asking for a BPO, the Punong Barangay can decide and issue it — effective 15 days — the same day you file, without hearing the abuser's side first (RA 9262 §14), and it's personally served on him immediately after.

What is a barangay VAW desk and is it different from the regular front desk?

It's a dedicated desk every barangay is required to have — not the general front desk. Its legal basis is the Magna Carta of Women's IRR (Rule IV §12(D)), it's staffed by a VAW Desk Officer the Punong Barangay designates, and it's described as the frontline responder for VAW cases at the barangay level, including the stated duty to assist victims in obtaining a Barangay Protection Order (15 days).
