What are the e-wallet tiers/limits and why is my GCash or Maya capped?

Short answer

Your wallet is capped by a mix of the provider's KYC tier and BSP e-money rules. E-money issuers like GCash (G-Xchange, Inc.) and Maya are supervised by the BSP under the electronic-money regulations (MORB ยง702). The BSP used to impose a fixed โ‚ฑ100,000 aggregate monthly load limit, but Circular 1166 (2023) replaced that flat cap with a risk-based system: each issuer now sets your transaction and balance limits based on your verification level (KYC tier) and its own risk assessment. So a lightly verified account is capped low, and completing full identity verification raises your limits. If your account is capped or a verification was rejected, that is the provider applying its tier rules โ€” you can ask, in writing, why, and what documents will lift the limit.

Frequently asked

Why is there a โ‚ฑ100,000 limit on my wallet?

That old flat BSP cap was removed by Circular 1166 (2023). Limits are now set by each issuer per your KYC tier and risk profile, so the exact figures differ by provider and verification level โ€” check your in-app limit and how to raise it.

My identity verification was rejected โ€” what can I do?

Ask the provider, in writing, for the specific reason and the exact documents it needs. Verification decisions are part of its BSP-mandated customer-due-diligence; if you believe it was handled unfairly, escalate to the BSP under RA 11765.

How do I increase my wallet limit?

Complete the provider's full identity verification (valid government ID and any required details). Higher tiers unlock higher balance and transaction limits under the issuer's risk-based framework.
