I sent a padala with the wrong recipient details — can I fix it?

Last updated: 2026-07-11 · Educational content; not legal advice.

Short answer

If the padala is still unclaimed, yes — ask the agent immediately to correct the recipient details or cancel and refund it, because the money is still yours until it is paid out. Payout is normally blocked when the recipient's ID does not match the name on the sending record, which buys you time to fix a misspelling or recover the funds. If it was already paid to the wrong person because of the error, the money was received by mistake and must be returned under solutio indebiti (Civil Code Article 2154). Report it in writing with your reference number right away, and escalate to the BSP if the provider will not help.

Frequently asked

Can the agent just correct a misspelled name?

Often yes, while the padala is unclaimed — ask immediately, in writing, with your reference number. Providers block payout when the ID does not match the sending record, so a genuine spelling fix can usually be made before anyone collects.

What if the wrong person already claimed it?

The money was received by mistake and must be returned under solutio indebiti (Civil Code Article 2154). Demand its return; if refused and the amount is ₱1,000,000 or below, you can file a small-claims case under A.M. No. 08-8-7-SC without a lawyer.

Is the provider at fault if I gave the wrong details?

Not for your typo — but it is still obliged to help you trace and, if unclaimed, cancel or correct the transfer, and to give you its complaint mechanism under RA 11765. Its failure to assist is a redress issue you can raise with the BSP.
