Can I cancel or get a refund on a remittance I already sent?

Short answer
You can usually cancel and get a refund only while the padala is still unclaimed โ once the recipient has collected it, the provider can no longer reverse it. As long as the funds have not been paid out, the money still belongs to you and the provider should return it, minus only charges it actually and lawfully disclosed. Ask the agent to cancel immediately, in writing, quoting your reference number; the sooner you act, the more likely the funds can be held. If the provider refuses to refund an unclaimed padala, that is a redress issue under RA 11765 you can escalate to the BSP.

Frequently asked
Can I cancel after the recipient already claimed the money?
Generally no. Once the padala is paid out, the provider cannot pull it back. Recovery then shifts to getting it back from the person who received it โ and if they received it by your mistake, they must return it under solutio indebiti (Civil Code Article 2154).
Will I be charged a fee to cancel?
A provider may only keep charges it actually and lawfully disclosed. It cannot invent a cancellation penalty that was never in the disclosed terms. Ask for the fee schedule in writing and dispute anything that was not disclosed before you sent.
How fast do I need to act?
Immediately. Cancellation is only possible while the funds are unclaimed, so the moment you decide to cancel, notify the agent in writing with your reference number so they can attempt to hold the payout.
