The loan app removed the pay button / won't let me pay — what do I do?

Last updated: 2026-07-12 · Educational content; not legal advice.

Short answer

A lender cannot lawfully manufacture a default by disabling your only way to pay and then piling on penalties — under RA 11765 a financial provider owes you fair dealing and a working way to settle your account. Keep dated proof of every blocked payment attempt (screenshots, error messages, chat logs), and pay through a traceable channel to the company's own account, demanding a receipt. If the creditor unjustly refuses valid payment, the Civil Code lets you discharge the debt by tender and consignation (Arts. 1256–1258) — you deposit the amount with the court and are released. Whatever they later add, the SEC MC 3, s. 2022 caps still bind the balance, and you can report the tactic to the SEC.

Frequently asked

They disabled the pay option, then charged me a late penalty — is that valid?

A penalty a lender engineered by blocking your ability to pay is contestable. Document that you tried to pay and were prevented, and dispute the penalty in writing; on a covered loan anything beyond the SEC MC 3 (2022) caps is void, and RA 11765 forbids unfair conduct.

How do I pay when the in-app option is gone?

Ask the lender in writing for its official company payment channel and a receipt or reference number. Pay only to the registered company account, never a personal GCash number, and keep proof of every payment.

What if they simply refuse to accept my payment?

If the creditor refuses a valid payment without just cause, you can make a formal tender and then consignation under Civil Code Arts. 1256–1258 — depositing the amount with the court releases you from the obligation and stops further interest from accruing.
